How to Make FEMA More Effective

Author: Lance Winslow

We have all seen the political positioning and the media fanned flame of blame game for the response to Hurricanes Rita and Katrina. We have seen everyone from the janitor of the Superdome to the President of the United States blamed for the weather. Even though we all know good and well that Hurricane Season comes once every year and that we are in a perhaps three decade severe Hurricane Cycle.

Everyone knew that New Orleans would someday be hit by a big Hurricane, it was not a secret, in fact in a practice study and research program a fictitious Hurricane Pam wiped out the city. Yet the city built underwater took no heed of such warnings. If we are to disrespect the surface of the planet and deny the forces of Mother Nature then she will teach us a lesson.

I propose since we are such a completely inept nation of pretenders that when reality strikes and knocks us back into next week from our LA LA LAND decadence, that we figure out a way to save all those folks who live in denial. I propose that FEMA invest in some super size blimps, which can float over flooded areas. These blimps can be instant communications stations, rescue platforms and supply warehouses to help folks in their time of need. It is not like we do not have this type of technology, we already have some on order for the military.

Lets face it if everything is flooded, all the roads are out, rail service caput, power no longer and no airport for 300 miles open, then doesnt it make sense to float in 50 light weight boats with rescue crews and supplies. Hurricane Katrina taught us a lesson. Those who do not evacuate near the coast will be in a world of hurt for many days, without help and we need a better plan and better equipment. Think on this.
