Don't Let Panic Attacks Destroy Your Relationships

Author: Steve O'Connor

If you or someone you know suffer from panic attacks, finding a good, accurate source of information on panic attack causes, symptoms and treatments is very important. It can be a daunting task, especially when the subject matter hits so close to home. However, this information can be invaluable in understanding the situation.

Searching for Accurate Facts

Seeking any information on panic attack treatments can be a daunting task because there is so much information available. It is easy to get the information but more difficult to verify individual sources of information. However, it is important that you check the credibility of your information source. Cross referencing multiple sources can help you come to a better grasp of what is truth.

Be suspect of those who want to sell something or Internet sources that seek advertising revenue. The source's motivations may alter the angle they take on the information they provide. And above all else, you shouldn't have to pay money to get the information you need, unless you are getting a consult with a physician.

Getting the Facts

Some places to start your search include the Internet, local libraries and medical professionals. In the case of the Internet, there are some panic disorder support sites that have nothing to sell that are aimed at providing information on panic attack treatments. Local libraries are a good source if you can find recent information, but often their books contain outdated information so check the publication dates. As mentioned, physicians will cost you. However, a physician is by far the quickest source of information if you come prepared to ask questions.

Who Not to Trust

Don't believe sources giving information on panic attack that appear to have no credentials. If they claim to be doctors, check them out with a medical organization. If they are out to make a profit, cross reference their information with not-for-profit sources. If they quote medical journals, go to the library and see what the whole article says. Also, check to see if those medical journals are treated as reputable by medical professionals. If these sources mention drugs or supplements, pharmacists at the local drug store are usually a fountain of free, reliable information about the effectiveness, interactions and side effects of these drugs.

Those dispensing information in order to make a profit do not have your safety as a primary concern, particularly information sources on the Internet that may be located in remote countries where they feel immune to lawsuits.

In spite of these many warnings about the reliability of information, keep in mind that there are many good sources of information on panic attack out there. As long as you are careful to weed out the suspect sources, you can be fairly confident about the accuracy of the information you find on panic attack causes, symptoms and treatments. When in doubt, consult with and have him or her verify the information you find. The bottom line is that you need to make whatever effort is necessary to find this information if your life is personally affected by panic attacks.
